Paula Varis
I am Paula Varis, costume designer and scenographer, located in Tampere. I graduated as a Master of Arts from Aalto University in 2012, though I have designed my first project already in 2001.
During my career I have mainly worked as a freelance designer in different theaters, but I’ve also designed tv-series, short films, dance productions, music videos, operas and installations. I have worked as a designer in over 50 productions.
Over the last years I’ve worked, among others, in theatres (Tampereen Työväen Teatteri, Rovaniemen Teatteri, Lahden kaupunginteatteri, Kouvolan Teatteri, Vaasan kaupunginteatteri) and The Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yleisradio).
I am chairperson of the board in Theatre, Film and Television Designers Union (LP ry, 2023-), and also chairperson of the board in a co-op company (ihme fakiiri osk, 2018-), which operates in television and film industry at Tampere.
As a designer I am very communicative, passionate about work and precise in details. I love working with creative groups, and in addition to working as a designer, I also love painting, dyeing and distressing materials. I am constantly searching for new techniques to create interesting designs.
I am ready to work as a designer all over Finland. Finnish is my native language, but I can also speak English fluently and Swedish adequately.
