Marie Antikainen
I studied theatre design at London’s Rose Bruford College and set design at the Aalto University of Art and Design in Helsinki. In the year 2016 I started working as the resident scenographer at the Kuopio City Theatre in Kuopio Finland. Before this I worked as the resident scenographer at the Joensuu City Theatre for five years. During my career I have worked as a freelance theatre designer at numerous repertory and fringe theatre companies both in Finland and in England. I have also been involved in the founding of two theatre companies and worked on communal art projects in multidisciplinary ways to create new practices of performance. Along the years I have worked within almost all disciplines of theatre making.
As a designer I have worked in both director lead and collective working processes in theatre productions ranging from the contemporary to the traditional. In most productions I have worked as a scenographer designing both the set and the costumes. Some of my work in the last few years include productions Hytti nro 6 (set design 2023), Maalari – Juho Rissanen (set and costume design 2023), Cabaret (set design 2019) and The House of Bernarda Alba (set design 2019) at The Kuopio City Theatre and Frida (set and costume design 2024) at The Tampereen Työväen Teatteri.
