Saana Volanen
I’m a scenographer and lighting designer who works in the fields of performance art and light art. I’ve graduated from the Design for Performance Art bachelor program from Aalto University and I’m currently finishing my masters in Lighting Design at the University of Arts Helsinki.
I work in various contexts of performance art, dance and theatre. In addition I have experience from event design and museum lighting. I have worked as a scenographer and lighting designer for example in Finnish National Theatre, MadHouse Helsinki, Tehdasteatteri and dance theatre Hurjaruuth.
When I’m working with a performance, I consider myself firstly a performance maker and a member of the working group, who then has an angle to the process (light, space or both).
